Biggest Super Hero Movies Ever

With the upcoming release of The Avengers, this would be a good time to look at the biggest box office hits based on comic book super heroes.

1. The Dark Knight (2008) The second film directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale. The late Heath Ledger co-starred as the Joker. (533 m)

2. Spider-Man (2002)  The first and the best of the Tobey Maguire / Kirsten Dunst Spidey films. (403 m)

3. Spider-Man 2 (2004) A great sequel to the first film. This one featured Alfred Molina as Dr. Octopus. (373 m)

4. Spider-Man 3 (2007) The third and final film made for a strong finish to this series. The Green Goblin, Venom and The Sandman appeared as the villains. (336 m)

5. Iron Man (2008) Robert Downey Jr. is perfectly cast as Tony Stark / Iron Man. Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow co-starred. (318 m)

6 Iron Man 2 (2010)  Decent sequel featuring Don Cheadle as War Machine, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. (312 m)

7. Batman (1989) The biggest super hero movie ever made before CGI. Directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. (251 m)

8. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) Third in the series featuring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. (234 m)

9. X2: X-Men United (2003) Sequel to 2000's X-Men starring Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry and Famke Janssen. (214 m)

10. Batman Begins (2005) First Batman film starring Christian Bale. This one co-starred Liam Neeson as the man who trained Bruce Wayne.. (205 m)
