Celebrities Who Came Out Of The Closet Later In Their Careers

Rosie O'Donnell: Comedian, actress and talk show host. Came out in 2002.

Richard Chamberlain: Became a heartthrob to millions of women as the star of TV's "Dr. Kildare" during the 1960's. Later in the 80's he was crowned king of the mini-series with "Shogun" 1980 and "The Thorn Birds" 1983. At the age of 69 wrote an autobiography revealing his homosexuality.

Rob Halford: Lead singer of the heavy metal band Judas Priest during the 70's and 80's. Came out publicly in 1998.


Tab Hunter: Another matinee idol of the 50's and 60's, who also announced his sexuality by writing an autobiography. Tab's book came out in 2005.

George Michael: Music superstar of the 80's and 90's, and former member of wham, admitted his homosexuality in 2007.

Jane Lynch: Became familiar to audiences due to movies like "Talladega Nights" and "Role Models" and the TV show "Two And A Half Men". Although she's been out the closet for years, most people probably learn she was gay after she became a star on the TV show "Glee".

Michael Stipe: The lead singer of REM has always been cryptic about his sexuality, but by the 2000's it was generally accepted that he was in a long term relationship with another man.
